I’ll walk you through exactly what we’re doing out here today in Harrisburg, North Carolina.

We’re getting ready to put down a knockdown finish on this pool deck. Before we get started, we’ve teamed up with a local landscaper who’s already come in and ripped out the old wood timber wall.

They’re still working on rebuilding the rest and just started laying in some river rock.

With the hardscaping underway, we’ve started our prep. The first thing we’re doing is going around the pool edges with bubble wrap.

Sounds strange, right? But it keeps the plastic floating exactly where we want it. We’ll also toss in a few pool noodles, then cover the entire pool in black plastic to keep as much debris out of the water as we can.

There’ll probably still be a little mess, but we do what we can to keep it clean while we work.

Grinding Work

We focused on hand grinding the edges, cutting out joints, and removing damaged plastic trim. Once we finished, the surface was fully prepped and ready for coating.

Applying the Base Coat & Knockdown Texture

After finishing the prep, we applied the base coat and followed up with the knockdown finish. Then we pulled the plastic and bubble wrap.

The bubble wrap worked exactly as intended—it caught most of the dirt and kept the pool clean.

Next, we taped off the remaining areas and applied an acrylic sealer in the color “Aged Paper” for a clean, professional finish.

We wrapped up the job on a hot Sunday morning. The project originally looked like a four-day job, but because of the extreme heat, it stretched into seven. We didn’t rush, we focused on safety and quality.
